On Wearing Fragrance in the Heat
8 November 2023
The first thing Accra teaches you about fragrance is restraint. One spray where you might use three. The heat does the work of amplification — your body becomes a diffuser, and the scent radiates outward in a way it never would in London in November.
The second thing it teaches you is patience. The opening of a fragrance in humid heat is aggressive, almost overwhelming. Wait ten minutes. The alcohol burns off, the top notes settle, and what remains is usually something far more interesting.
Our recommendations for warm-climate wearing
- Apply to pulse points: inner wrists, behind the knees, the base of the throat. Avoid rubbing — this breaks down the molecular structure of the top notes.
- Less is more. In temperatures above 30°C, one or two sprays is sufficient.
- Consider lighter concentrations: Eau de Cologne and Eau de Toilette perform differently in the heat. Our Eau de Parfum concentrations are formulated specifically for West African climates.
- Store fragrances away from direct sunlight and heat. A cool drawer is better than a bathroom shelf.
